Design and development of a manually operated oil palm crusher
The total time to extract 62 gm crude palm oil from 500 gm of fresh fruit was 1hr and 15 minutes. The weight of the crusher is 11 kg which is easy to operate by one man. The overall...
Traditional methods of palm oil extraction from palm fruits (Elaeis guineensis) produce low quality and quantity of oil. This study sought to design, construct and test a motorised palm oil extractor with evaluation of the oil extracted in comparison with a manual vertical press.
Oil palm in the 2020s and beyond: challenges and solutions
Cultivation of oil palm as a crop was originally an informal process mainly confined to the West/Central African coastal belt between Guinea/Liberia and Northern Angola (Corley and Tinker 2015 ). Globally, the best production levels are achieved in high rainfall areas in equatorial regions between 7° N and 7° S.
However, the process technologies and the quality of palm oil produced have remained stagnant for the past decades. This paper reviews the latest development in the process technologies that can be applied in the palm oil milling process to improve the sustainability and efficiency of palm oil production, as well as the quality of the oil produced.
Development of a manually operated palm oil extraction machine
The palm farmers of Bangladesh are suffering for want of an extraction machine. Therefore, a research was undertaken to design and develop a manually operated palm oil extraction machine at the department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University. It is a press type machine.

Development and Performance Evaluation of a Variable
The highest oil extraction ratio (OER) of 17.90% and oil extraction efficiency (OEE) of 79.56% were obtained at the sterilization time of 60 min, digestion time of 10 min and screw speed of 10 rpm.
The quality of palm oil dictates and directs its use and the quality of palm oil recovered subsequent to clarification is lower. Broadly speaking, the high quality palm will find use in the edible oil industry while the lower quality oil will be used in the non-edible industry—candles, soap, biofuels, cosmetics etc. Conclusions
Palm oil: Processing, characterization and utilization in the
The quality of palm oil dictates and directs its use. Broadly speaking, high quality palm oils are used in the edible oil industry while lower quality oils are used in the non-edible industry for biofuels, candles, cosmetics and soap (Henson, 2012). Good quality oil contains more than 95% neutral TAGs and 0.5% or less FFA.
