Comparative study of polyphenolic compound extraction from empty palm
In this research, sugarcane pulp, and empty palm fruit bunches from the palm oil production were investigated as potential raw materials. This study aims to determine solvents and easy-to-perform extraction methods that show the highest effectivity in regards to total phenolic and flavonoid yield and the correlated antioxidant activity.
Results showed a better oil extraction yield for fruits that had been frozen and thawed before extraction than for fresh, unfrozen fruits: yields of 26.0 ± 2.3 g/100 g fruit, about 40 g/100 g mesocarp were obtained from frozen/thawed fruits, as opposed to 20.0 ± 0.5 g/100 g fruit, i.e. 33 g/100 g mesocarp from fresh fruits.
Reactive extraction of after-stripping sterilized palm fruit to
The biodiesel yield based on palm fresh fruit bunch (FFB) was found to be 272 and 175 g biodiesel per kg FFB by the single-step reactive extraction method and the conventional two-step extraction followed by reaction method, respectively. Introduction
Abstract Palm oil is known to be rich in carotenoids and other phytonutrients. However, the carotenoids and phytonutrients degrade due to high heat sterilization of oil palm fruits. The present study was conducted to produce carotenoid-rich virgin palm oil (VPO) using cold-press extraction.
Functionality and yield of pectin extracted from Palmyra palm
Abstract Large numbers of fruits from Palmyra palm ( Borassus aethiopum Mart), a common, native tree of tropical regions, are underutilized and left to spoil. This work was conducted to assess pectin content of Palmyra palm fruit, and to develop a reliable protocol for pectin extraction.
This effect was most pronounced in ripe and overripe fruits for wet treatment while overripe and loose fruits for dry treatment. The oil yield extracts exceeding 45% (w/w) whereas FFA, DOBI and ...
Extraction of Oil and Minor Compounds from Oil Palm Fruit with
A significant quantity of tocochromanols and carotenoids remains in the residual from palm oil production by traditional screw pressing. Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction was used as alternative method with the purpose to recover better these valuable minor compounds. Total oil yield and co-extracted water were investigated in the course of extraction. Tocochromanols and carotenoids were ...

Optimization of the Ultrahigh-Pressure–Assisted Extraction of Phenolic
The goal of this study was to optimize an innovative ultrahigh-pressure–assisted extraction method for phenolic compounds of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) using response surface methodology (RSM). A four-factor-three-level Box–Behnken design (BBD) was used to test the following extraction parameters: ethanol concentration (X1), solvent to sample ratio (X2), temperature (X3), and ...
Experiments involving dry heating sterilization (SD) couple with solvent extraction of palm fruits were done to determine the relationship of palm oil yield and deterioration of bleachability index (DOBI). As a comparison, the conventional method of wet heating was used (SW).
