Processing practices of small-scale palm oil producers in the Kwaebibirem District, Ghana
Oil palm ( Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) cultivation is a core part of Ghana's agriculture. It has been selected by the government as a key strategic pillar of agricultural and industry-led growth for poverty reduction because of its potential to provide income for many rural smallholders [1].
It produces palm oil, which has been cultivated in Ghana for thousands of years ( Sowunmi, 1999; Maley and Chepstow-lusty, 2001) as part of a mixed agroforesty system for local and domestic use. The overseas export of palm oil began in the colonial era, when Ghana emerged as one of the world's leading producers.

Quality and safety evaluation of important parameters in palm oil from major cities in Ghana
Current statistics estimate that the global production of palm oil is about 72.27 million metric tons. Indonesia and Malaysia are the principal global producers followed by Thailand, Colombia, and Nigeria. Ghana produces 242,130 metric tonnes representing one[5].
Production of palm oil now accounts for 37 percent of the total global output of oilseeds, overtaking soybean oil as the leading vegetable oil. Malaysia and Indonesia dominate world production and trade with 90 percent of global output, while West Africa accounts for a negligible 3.5 percent.
